Der Grafikdesigner und Illustrator David Laferriere beherrscht nicht nur sein Handwerk. Nein, er ist auch ein ganz toller Vater. Seit 2008 malt er seinen beiden Kindern jeden Tag eine kleine Illustration als Überraschung auf die Sandwichtüten. So werden Tag für Tag die Sandwiches belegt, danach gemalt und noch schnell Fotos gemacht. Mehr Fotos nach dem Klick auf „Weiterlesen“.
Natürlich habe ich via Flickr zu David Kontakt aufgenommen. Einerseits um die Erlaubnis der Verwendung der hier gezeigten Fotos zu erbitten, andererseits um ihm ein paar kurze Fragen zu stellen. David arbeitet als Grafikdesigner in Vollzeit für das Wheaton College. Nebenbei arbeitet er noch ab und zu als Freelancer.
How old was your kid when you started drawing the bags?
My boys were in second and fourth grade when I started drawing on the bags as a way to jump-start my creative juices and have some fun with my kids. They are currently in eighth and a sophmore in high school.
Does your kid have an all time favourite bag up to now?
My oldest thought it was cool when I drew a Creeper from Minecraft and my youngest likes the bags with worms.
Do you (or does your kid) collect the empty bags?
The bags get thrown away or put in recycling. The only record of the sandwich bag drawing is the photo that I post on flickr.
How did you came up with the idea of drawing the bags?
I was already making their lunches and wanted to do something fun for them and me. I actually tried drawing with food coloring directly on the bread. That was too time intensive and the texture of bread is terrible to draw on. I’ve always had some black Sharpie markers kicking around and they worked well on the sandwich bag. Over time I added other colors and have experimented with different techniques.

Hier noch zwei Tüten aus dem Jahr 2008, als David mit dem Bemalen der Tüten begann. Eine tolle Entwicklung, wenn man die Illustrationen oben und hier unten im Vergleich sieht. Das erste Bild, das ich finden konnte, war dieses Huhn. Ebenfalls aus dem Jahr 2008 ist der Totenkopf ;)
